You might have caught her on Oscar night! Yes,
I’m talking about Actress and Comedienne Roz Browne. Okay, so she played a
scrub nurse in a Pepsi commercial shown during the Oscars. But that won’t be
the last time you see this face on the screen. Roz has been steadily making
her presence known in Hollywood. September 2002 was the debut of her
one-woman show “Fried Clams with Bellies” in which she tells how as a young
girl she didn’t want to eat them -- the bellies that is. But after one
taste, she changed her mind. Browne’s humorous and poignant biographical
story ran for six weeks to sold out audiences at The Elephant Performance
Lab Theater in Hollywood. More recently she won the prestigious Boston Metro
Award for Favorite Comedian during the 2006 Boston Comedy Festival. She has
shared the stage with Steve Harvey, Arsenio Hall, Chris Rock and other well
known Comedians.
“Sometimes you have to see beyond the way something looks,” is Browne’s
message in “Fried Clams with Bellies”. She learned all about that growing up
in a middle class family as a Black woman in a predominately white Boston
neighborhood.
Browne has kept audiences laughing since 1992 when she first began to pursue
her dream. “A high school teacher told me I can make a lot of money as a
CPA. So that’s what I did. Then I found out later that the teacher was just
kidding,” states Browne who performs regularly at The World Famous Comedy
Store and at The Laugh Factory in Hollywood.
Browne has appeared on ABC’s The View with Barbara Walters and Star
Jones; BET’s Comic View, The Best of Comic View and
America’s Funniest People. You can catch her act online at improv.com
and on the comedy time network. She has toured extensively in Asia,
including Japan and Korea as well as Hawaii as a stand-up comedienne and was
featured at the Toyota Comedy Festival in New York , The Boston Comedy
Festival and at Comedy Works in Denver, Colorado.
Browne’s film credits include Danny Devito’s blockbuster film, “How High”,
starring Method Man and Red Man; “Sunset Park” and “Deirdra’s Party”. Other
comedy sightings are listed below.
